Terms to Know:
Active Range of Motion (AROM): motion created by one’s own force
Active Assisted Range of Motion (AAROM): some portion of motion is created by outside force OR partial force is externally applied throughout movement
Evaluation of ROM: amount of motion for a given joint in a specific plane can be described verbally or in terms of actual degrees
Within Functional Limits (WFL): implies that individual has adequate ROM for completing routine daily tasks (without measuring)
How to Administer:
Tell and show client what you want them to do (do not use terms like “flex, extend, abduct, etc.”)
Observe client’s AROM through movements
